“Philosopher on Jazz” at Keele Community Day

At this year’s Keele Community Day on Sunday 31 May (http://www.keele.ac.uk/keeleday/), SPIRE’s James Tartaglia – philosopher and jazz musician – will be running an event to guide people through 4 classic jazz performances:

Bix Beiderbecke – “Blue River” (1927)
Lester Young – “Linger Awhile” (1943)
Sonny Rollins – “At McKies'” (1963)
Albert Ayler – “Change has Come” (1967)
James will have his saxophone on hand to give demonstrations, as he provides fascinating background on the musicians and performances, explains what to listen out for, and then plays the original recordings.
The event will take place from 1:30 – 2:30 in Zone 2 (CBA 0.061). Programme available here:
