16 February: Royal Institute of Philosophy Lecture

The next Royal Institute of Philosophy lecture will be tomorrow, 16 February at the usual time and place (6:00-7:30 pm, Chancellor’s Building, Room CBA 0.060)

Dr Maria Alvarez (University of Southampton) will be speaking on “Practical Reasoning and Reasons for Action”

The paper explores how thinking about reasons for acting might help to understand practical reasoning — about which there is fundamental disagreement among philosophers. The argument’s starting point is G.E.M. Anscombe’s remark in “Intention” that ‘ “I want” does not rightly occur in the premises [of practical reasoning]’.
