Moral Responses and Moral Judgements

By: James Kirwan (Kansai University)
On: Tuesday, 13 October 2015
From: 6-7.30 pm
In: CBA1.102, Chancellor’s Building, Keele University
All Welcome! Wine

Abstract:
The seminar will concentrate on drawing a distinction between moral responses, which happen to us, and moral judgements, which we make. It will explore the character of each of these distinct entities and the relationship between them, and highlight the way in which the use of ‘judgement’ to refer promiscuously to both is responsible for many apparently intractable problems within metaethics. The seminar will also look at the way in which a failure to distinguish between the two is also responsible for a number of recent pseudo-solutions to standing metaethical problems.
